If you’ve been looking for a full-size pickup that’s available in a configuration to fit your needs, you’ll want to take a good look at the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The versatile Silverado can be purchased as a basic work truck, a potent tow truck, a rugged off-road vehicle, or a luxurious daily driver. The new 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 trim level was designed to take on the toughest backroad trails, whether you’re crawling over rocks or fording streams. In addition to the ZR2, the Silverado 1500 gets new features that include a 13.4-inch touchscreen for the LT and higher trims. The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 also gets a restyled front fascia. The standard 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine now produces 420 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 72 lb-ft. The diesel powerplant can now tow up to 13,300 pounds, up from 9,300 pounds for the outgoing model. Chevy’s Safety Assist system now features more advanced safety equipment.

Buyers can get the 2022 Silverado 1500 in one of nine trims: WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, ZR2 and High Country. Four engines are available. The base powerplant is a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine generating 310 horses and 420 lb-ft of torque, linked to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The other engine options are a 5.3-liter V8 generating 355 hp and 383 lb-ft, a 6.2-liter V8 good for 420 hp and 460 lb-ft, and a 3.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel developing 277 hp and 460 lb-ft. The latter three engines are coupled to a 10-speed automatic transmission. One exception: some four-wheel-drive models equipped with the 5.3-liter V8 get a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The Silverado 1500’s standard infotainment system features a Wi-Fi hotspot and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Move up to the LT and higher models, and you’ll get the larger touchscreen mentioned previously, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A voice assistant powered by Google is also standard. Steering-wheel-mounted buttons or spoken commands allow the driver to control the audio source and climate control system. The voice assistant can even send texts. Adding available Amazon Alexa integration makes the infotainment system even more rewarding.

The new 2022 Silverado 1500 ZR2 trim comes with the 6.2-liter V8 engine, an enhanced two-speed transfer case with Terrain Mode, 33-inch tires, Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers, a high-approach front bumper, steel front and rear bumpers, a black grille with accent lighting, unique skid plates, a hidden dual-outlet exhaust, animated LED headlamps, and exclusive interior styling.

All Silverado 1500 trims come with the Chevy Safety Assist package. This safety suite includes a following distance indicator, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and Intellibeam high beam assist.
